SETH WILLINGHAM RESIGNS AS OAKLAND MILLS’ FOOTBALL COACH

Seth Willingham has resigned as football coach at Oakland Mills, but will remain as the Scorpions’ girls basketball coach, he announced to DigitalSports on Friday.

“My wife is expecting our first child in the middle of September, and with the back-to-back season with basketball, I felt that the time commitment is too much,” Willingham wrote in an e-mail.

“I had to give up one sport,” Willingham said, “and at this time, I chose to stick with basketball.”

In football this past fall, Willingham coached quarterback Justin Sottilare, who stands 6-foot-3,
rushed for eight touchdowns and threw for 2,700 yards and 15 more
scores.

Sottilare has signed a national letter of intent accepting a scholarship
to attend St. Francis Xavier University Antigonish in Nova Scotia,
Canada.

Sottilare,
who completed 59% of his passes and threw or rushed for 12 two point
conversions, set a single-game state passing yardage record of 448
yards on the way to earning DigitalSports First-Team All-Howard County
honors and ranked third in the state this past season in total passing
yardage.

In girls’ basketball, the Scorpions reached the Class 2A South Regional semifinals, led by the nearly unstoppable senior Mariam McKenzie, who will attend Loyola College next season.
